i wish someone would please explain to me the paranoia over H1N1, last known as swine flu.
okay, actually, please don't cos you will not be able to justify your point of view.
let me explain why i am not paranoid, and why i don't see the need to freak out.
1. H1N1 (in 2009), unlike SARS (in 2003), is treatable with Tamiflu and Relenza. So all you need to do, is to see a bloody doctor and hope that the doctor gives you an accurate diagnosis, and ships you off to the CDC. and if this bloody doctor does not, you can always call 993 (provided you have been to places affected) and they can ship you there. Okay, maybe SHIP is not the right word, but you get the point.
2. Read the first point 5 times, and get it into your head. Read the first point an infinite number of times until you can memorise it.
3. I believe that I am invincible. I survived stomach flu for 4 days before, without seeing the doctor. Which reminds me, if I get food poisoning, better force me to go to the doctor before i die.
Just the other day, my mum's friend asked her if she should go to hongkong (i think) for a business trip (2 big bosses asked her to go) considering that H1N1 existed there. For some weird reason, my mum asked me for advice...and I gave the advice that H1N1 is completely treatable, you jus need to monitor yourself and get a diagnosis after you are back. Since there are career opportunities, 7 days of quarantine when she gets back, wouldn't be a big deal, for a career advancement. The next day, she told my mum that she'd be going.
Explanations should be logical and not based upon paranoia.
So when H1N1 comes to Singapore, I will, stock up as much food as possible, lock myself at home, shut all the windows, wear a couple of masks, a hooded jacket, and hide under my blanket.
Cheers!
